WHAT MAKES HUMANS TERRIBLE?

Image
Over the years, I kept wondering why most humans are terrible and why some humans are more soft, gentle and understanding than others. While some are harsh, mean, strict and overbearing. Then I thought it might be from their upbringing, their experiences, the parenting they saw or something else but I realized that there is more to just upbringing and experiences. So here are the reasons why most humans are terrible.  Many humans just live life without a purpose. Many humans don't have a hobby. They prefer sex, drinking alcohol and taking drugs as a form of releasing stress. Many humans haven't completely healed from their past, emotional pains, bitterness and childhood traumas. Many humans live life with high expectations. Many humans see others as a means to control, rule, make money and lead.  Many humans are faced with extremism. Extreme way of life and behaviours. Many humans focus so much on money and less on passion. Many humans are so full of pride. They can't be hu...

WORK GIVES FULFILLMENT

Image
Work is life, life is work. Work is fulfillment. Work saves us from depression, anxiety, frustrations of life, death and troubles. Also, it pays our bills. So a person who isn't working is a dead soul. Even though your parents are well to do or your brother, husband or whosoever is catering for you, it is good you have something doing. This is very necessary because at the end of the day, you see a housewife complaining about money and her husband's behaviours. What happens when they person catering for you dies or in cases of accident or eventuality? Everyone was born with a purpose, a calling and dreams. You discover your purpose and pursue your self development. You go to school, you learn a trade or skill, you perfect your craft, you create time for yourself and your hobbies, you develop yourself in any way you can. Apart from the money that work brings, work gives happiness and a sense of purpose. You are defined by your work and service to others. Moreover, work takes you...

HEALING AND A BETTER SOCIETY

Image
The world needs healing, organizations need healing, families need healing, homes need healing, individuals need healing and a rebirth of humanity. I came across lots of complaints of children about abusive parenting on Facebook, Twitter, Quora and Nairaland and I felt sad. Sad that I had experienced all of that and I know where the shoe pinches. You need to go through the horrible experiences to be sensitive to dysfunctionality. We need holistic healing. We have to heal physically, spiritually, mentally, psychologically, emotionally and financially. Hurt people hurt others. The reason why we have many angry, depressed, sadist and frustrated humans is because humans don't heal. Damaged generation keep damaging their kids and the abusive cycle continues. And we don't invite or even see the need for counselors, psychologist and therapist in our lives. I found it difficult healing trauma because I stayed with humans who didn't understand me. They might have loved me but the e...

THERE IS AN URGENT NEED FOR COUNSELORS

Image
Before any other thing, I would like to say that there is an urgent need for counselors and psychologist in Nigeria. There is so much hardship, suffering, humans are frustrated, going through trauma or healing from trauma. Many people are depressed, jobless and even isolated. Some people don't have friends or people to talk to or even listen to them without judging them. So, the first thing that comes to people's mind is to post their problems on social media, blow an alarm or call for help or just to feel relieved a bit. I don't blame them or say how immature they are, because when people are frustrated the last thing on their mind is shame. When the heat is so much and they can't take it anymore, it calls for alarm blowing. No one is perfect anymore. I don't blame any living human being who cried for help on social media at some point. Especially feeling stuck in a terrible situation. It could be anyone and in most case worst than that. But what humans say or do...

LIFE SKILLS I LEARNED OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Image
Outside the classroom, there are many life skills to be learnt. I actually learnt most of the skills from the hard knocks of life. Some things are not taught in school, it requires you living, experiencing and learning from your life and the lives of others. So the following are the life skills I learned outside the classroom. Listening Patience How to clean and wash How to cook How to give first aid treatment How to care How to do a research without being told to do so How to communicate Good manners and etiquette How to discover a passion How to relax and reduce stress Taking care of your health Do it yourself Take pictures Keep records Listening Listening is a life skill I don't take for granted. A lot of people communicate but do not listen. In fact they do not understand what has been said even before talking. It took me series of hard time to be humble enough to listen to others. I found myself in a place where no one understood me and I had no one to talk to. Then I discove...

Everyday Gratitude

Image
Today I am grateful for I am grateful for life. I am grateful for seeing the month of September. I am grateful for happiness. I am grateful for the ability to journal my past, present and future. I am grateful I discovered blogging. It has helped me in various ways. I am grateful for slow living. I try not to rush anything or do things that are way above me. I am grateful I can fix my problems without being too emotional. I am grateful that sometimes I can make decisions without my emotions interfering. I am grateful for self love and care. In a suppose selfish and carefree world, this is what has kept me sane. I am grateful, now I no longer blame anyone for my problems. I face my problems while ensuring I avoid toxicity. I am grateful I am still single and discovering myself. It has never been in my plan to marry early. I wished to build my career first before marriage. I probably can't tell the kind of person I would be getting married to, so it's good to do first thing firs...

Everyday Gratitude

Image
Dear Diary, It's been a long time since I wrote this way. I forgot so soon how writing or chatting with a friend feels like. Today, I am grateful for; Love I am grateful for self care and self acceptance. I am grateful for happiness. I am grateful for peace. I am grateful for life. I am grateful for living life at 25. Some days, it is happy, fun, interesting, entertaining while some days, it is dark, sad, gloomy and bitter. I love every bit of the journey. I have learnt a lot from others especially from my parents and older sister. I am grateful I have food on my table and water to drink. I am grateful for healing. I am grateful for growth. I am grateful for everything. Elizabeth Diaries ❤️

BE INTENTIONAL

Image
I say this again and again. Be intentional about anything you want in life. Be intentional about your journey, your dreams, your wants and your healing. Along my healing journey, I discovered the power of intentions. Say what you want and stick to it. Do what you want to do and stick to it. Be consistent at it. Choose what makes you happy and that which fulfills you. Don't chose anything for yourself because a friend said so, your parents said so or everyone said so. Do things with intention. Have a purpose and the reason you do the things you do. Focus! Always focus. There are a whole lot of distractions out there that can make you stumble if you are not focused. Be intentional about your healing. Personally, I had to say no to dating and marriage until I healed completely. I don't want to repeat the mistakes I saw my mother or any other woman did. I want peace and calmness. This is why I take my education seriously and dedicate years to building up myself. I can't imagin...

THE FIRST EXPERIENCE

Image
Elizabethokondiaries.blogspot.com The night before 31st July got us really thinking. Of death, of damages and just anything negative. All along, our minds had never rested. Same topic every month until it became depressing. My sister was diagnosed of fibroid and until the fibroid was taken out, she would have been constantly disturbed. This was the first time of going through such thing. A fibroid. Though my father had an operation about four years ago but it was hyena, not fibroid. So, we were so scared. The whole family was scared. Even though she had tried the local medicine of fibroid removal, none actually worked. She kept spending resources until she decided to be operated on. On the morning of the operation day, my mother prayed so hard. In fact she started crying even after they had booked a professional doctor who specializes on operation, she was still scared. My anxiety increased since I am so allergic to negativity. I kept on assuring myself that all will be well. The...

HOW I SELF-CARE

Self-care has helped me so far. Through it I have compassion, love, mercy and empathy to myself and others. This is how I care for myself. 1. I do the things I love. It is stress free and enjoyable. I read, I journal. I write out my feelings, thoughts and emotions. This clears my mind. 2. I make a new hair. It relaxes and relief stress. 3. I live in the present. MORNING WITH NATURE

Today, I woke up early, washed my hands, face and legs. I washed dishes and spent my time with nature. Spending time with nature is healing. I took a mat, laid it on the floor with my pillow and relaxed. Fresh air soothes my skin and body, I feel refreshed and sound. I realized that nature keeps humans alive. The animals, tall trees, plants and flowers. And a clean environment. Yesterday I washed my bedsheets and pillowcases, at night I slept so well just like a baby. The sleep came with ease, without stress. Then I could see that a dirty environment also contribute to pains, worries and problems. When my environment is clean, my mind is cleared free of problems and calm. So it's 12:37pm and I am all here alone listening to the songs of the birds, the sound of moving vehicles, the barking of dogs and the breeze from trees and plants. I am living one day at a time.  I don't really have anything doing other than cooking, resting, sleeping, surfing the internet, reading articles, ...

SLOW LIVING: HOW I LIVE MY DAY DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Good afternoon guys! It's holiday time and I am partly happy. I am happy that I am staying home, then I am sad that I won't get a pay. This is what happens when you work as a professional teacher in a private school in Nigeria. So, I am happy now I have all the time to myself. You know the teaching profession is one profession that gives so much time. I have time for myself. I have time for my family and my loved ones. And I have time to blog. During this holiday I am going to rest, eat, watch YouTube and have fun. This morning, I woke up early, washed dishes, washed my bedsheets and pillowcases. I hand wash them, I don't have a washing machine. I took my bath and ate breakfast. I feel so lazy. I stay on my bed, cuddle and feel like doing nothing. I lay on bed and rest as I watches the day go by. I learned to prioritize my rest and self-care. I don't stress myself beyond limit and I don't engage in things that are difficult for me to handle. I do the things I can an...

WHY I GAVE UP ON DATING

It's okay every girl gets a boyfriend, right? Yes, but I gave up on dating a long time ago. Guys didn't see me attractive enough so I gave up. This made me hate myself. Some years ago I was body shamed. I was called skinny and felt so worthless of being loved. I wanted love desperately. Everyone needs love in his or her life. I wanted sex too. I wanted someone who could admire and touch my body but all the guys I ever met made me feel worthless about myself. There, I gave up on dating. The dating I had then wasn't serious. I was unlucky to meet guys who were after the looks of a girl rather than the love. No guy loved me the way I wanted and I hated myself until I made peace with myself and loved myself. Now, I am my first love. Any other love comes second or last. I take myself out, I eat what I want, I buy the things I want. I buy my body cream. I treat myself. I don't wait for a boyfriend to do all that for me. And some people say that's so selfish of me. I rathe...

WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY

I can't really tell what makes me happy. Sometimes I can be so happy without anything being responsible for it. And other times, money, colleagues, success, freedom can make me happy. I feel happy when I come on my blog, write and people all over the world read my blog. I feel happy to own a small blog. Not for money but for fun. I enjoy blogging. I say this over and over again because I mean it. Also, I enjoy a stress free life. Having things without stress, getting things without stress, working hard but not stressing. I dislike stress and suffering. It makes me look old and worn-out. I feel happy talking about myself. I feel happy having a voice. Like I can make blogging a career because it is what I love most. I love entertainment.  Freedom makes me happy. The kind of life where no one cages you, no one stops you from achieving your dreams or doing a task. I love that kind of life and I am so far from it. I believe one day all my dreams will come through and I won't have to...

THINGS I LOVE

Before I tell you all the things I love, let me tell you what others love about me. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven and more people have really loved my voice on phone. I find it surprising because to me, my voice is just nothing but many people love it. Also, people love that I am calm and humble. Though I can be troublesome sometimes, I love how people see good qualities in me and compliment it. So, the things I love is first, a peaceful and serene environment. You know my mind is at peace and rest in such an environment. No worries, no troubles and no running around. I feel good to wake up early and do chores on time. Waking up early and starting the day on a good mood makes my day. I love working. Yes, I love being busy. Either with a hobby or doing chores. Some afternoons when I am less tired I sweep the house and make it clean. I hate being forced to work. So so much. So I enjoy doing things at free will rather than forced. I don't see any fun in a forced work.  On a ...

WHY I STAY ANONYMOUS

I dislike noise. I want to be heard, but not seen. It is very okay for me that way. I am a shy person who sees noise and attention as distractions. This way I can't be a celebrity. I run far away from it each time. Because first, I won't be allowed to be human. Everyone's eyes and attention will be on me and that isn't really cool. And at a point you will try so well to protect yourself and get security. You can't even be safe. So, I like the everyday life where I go my way, do my thing, I don't have headaches and nobody else has headaches. I can work anywhere and nobody comes to tell me, “You are our role model, what do you do here?" And the internet has so much provided me with such life, even though I chose to remain anonymous. Now, I am concerned about self-care and mental health. It is not easy to be perfect but I try my best to be a good human being to my fellow human. I realized that the only thing that excites me is blogging. With the fear, anxiety ...

NIGERIA AND THE WHITE RACE

I have always imagined how a mixed race looks like. I have imagined a Nigerian get married to a white man and the beautiful children thereof. The other day on Facebook, I saw a South African woman married to a Korean man with seven beautiful children from the marriage. You know, my thoughts have always been on the adaptation of culture, place and food. Mostly food and weather. I kept wondering how on earth can a Korean man love an African woman. Well, I am not surprise. Things happen. I love seeing mixed race. It's absolutely beautiful. I know a boy whose father is from Egypt and his mother, a Nigerian. He has lived in Nigeria right from his birth and would be going to Egypt when he reaches 18 years. And this boy looks so handsome and smart. I have also wondered if these men are abusive like some of our African men. Because on pictures they look so nice and real. Do they also eat African meals? I am yet to read stories of Africans, Nigerians who got married to the white race.  How ...

WHAT TO HAVE DURING RAINY SEASON

This is it's time. It rained so heavily yesterday. I left the school for home only to get disturbed by the rain. And like others, I stopped, stood at a corner and waited for the rain to stop. I wasn't with a car nor an umbrella. The overflowing water was messy. No car was able to drive pass the floor. When the rain stopped, I headed home. Today, it rained again. This time around I left work early so rain couldn't meet me outside. Just like yesterday, it rained so heavily. These are the things I wished I had during rainy season. First, an umbrella- it serves as a shield against rain and sun. Umbrella is useful for any season but I like using it most when it rains. A car Having a car even if it is not an expensive one can save you from a lot of stress and in times of emergency. During rainy days, you rarely see a cab or a good Nigerian Keke due to the weather, so it is good you get your own car. Food Having food at home serves you the expenses of eating outside. You save your...
